Barbecued Beef (Bulgogi), Entrée

Preparation time: 30 minutes, 1 hour
to overnight for marinade;
10 minutes to cook
Recipe ingredients and directions:
1-1/2 lbs sirloin tip,
thinly sliced into ½ by 2 inch pieces; or use flank steak. To save time, order meat already sliced from
butcher.
Marinade:
½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup dark sesame oil
¼ cup rice vinegar
¼ cup finely chopped green
onions
½ tsp black pepper
Blend in mortar and pestal,
then add to liquid:
2 tbs brown sugar
3 tbs toasted sesame seeds
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ tsp grated or minced
ginger root
In a large bowl, combine soy
sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar and green onions and pepper. Taste for seasonings and add more sugar if
desired. Stir in other blended
ingredients. Add meat and mix
well. Cover or enclose in zip-lock bag
and refrigerate 1 to 3 hours (or all night) turning meat occasionally.
Preheat broiler or
grill. Drain off marinade from meat and
discard marinade. Broil or grill meat 2
to 3 minutes per side or until it’s no longer red in center.
Serve on bed of lettuce or
spinach if desired and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve with rice and/pr vegetable side
dishes.
Note: Buy toasted sesame seed in Asian section of
store or toast your own. Place in a dry
skillet over medium heat. Toast until
seeds turn light brown, shaking the pan to keep the seeds from scorching.
