No. of servings:                  4

Preparation time:               30 minutes, 1 hour to overnight for marinade;

                                                 10 minutes to cook

Recipe ingredients and directions:

1-1/2 lbs sirloin tip, thinly sliced into ½ by 2 inch pieces; or use flank steak.  To save time, order meat already sliced from butcher.

Marinade:

½ cup soy sauce

¼ cup dark sesame oil

¼ cup rice vinegar

¼ cup finely chopped green onions

½ tsp black pepper

Blend in mortar and pestal, then add to liquid:

2 tbs brown sugar

3 tbs toasted sesame seeds

2 cloves garlic, minced

½ tsp grated or minced ginger root

In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar and green onions and pepper.  Taste for seasonings and add more sugar if desired.  Stir in other blended ingredients.  Add meat and mix well.  Cover or enclose in zip-lock bag and refrigerate 1 to 3 hours (or all night) turning meat occasionally.

Preheat broiler or grill.  Drain off marinade from meat and discard marinade.  Broil or grill meat 2 to 3 minutes per side or until it’s no longer red in center.

Serve on bed of lettuce or spinach if desired and garnish with chopped green onions.  Serve with rice and/pr vegetable side dishes.

Note:  Buy toasted sesame seed in Asian section of store or toast your own.  Place in a dry skillet over medium heat.  Toast until seeds turn light brown, shaking the pan to keep the seeds from scorching.
