Recipe name and category:        Philadelphia Home-Style Crispy Chicken

No. of servings:

Preparation time:

Recipe ingredients and directions:

1 cup sour cream

2 tsp lemon juice

2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

1 tsp celery seed

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/8 tsp pepper

3 whole chicken breasts - boned, skinned, and split

1 16 oz pkg. herb seasoned stuffing mix

3/4 cup butter

Preheat oven to 325˚.

Mix first 7 ingredients.  Dip chicken in the mixture, coating well.  Place the stuffing mix in a separate bowl.  Toss the coated chicken in the stuffing mix, covering generously.  Roll and place in a greased baking dish (9" ax 13").  If you like stuffing, you can place extra stuffing mix in the folded portion of the chicken or leave some on the outside alongside the chicken pieces.  At this point, if you like, you can refrigerate the dish for up to a day - this allows you to make it ahead of time.  When you are ready to bake, melt the butter and pour it evenly on the tops of each chicken piece.  Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes.  For variation, you can also place a little white wine in the baking dish prior to baking.

Recipe anecdote:   I was born and raised in Philadelphia.  This dish is not a traditional Philadelphia food like a hoagie, cheese steak, or pretzel.  It is, however, a recipe that I got from my mother-in-law, Marion Taylor, a transplanted Canadian who lives in Philadelphia.  In our house, it is also referred to as "Yummy Chicken."
